sorry i don’t normally comment on gifsets but this post made me want to say something. the post says: “(referring to damon) elena needed help and she went to someone with whom she doesn’t have to put up the face, she can be herself and that person would understand what she’s going through. and (referring to stefan) not to someone who would judge her and lecture her and be an asshole in general.” just watch this scene in 2x15 because if you watch the flashback you’ll see that stefan had the exact same approach to his new vamphood that elena will likely have going forward (according to spoilers). it was actually damon who is the complete opposite in terms of personality. stefan wanted to relish in it and enjoy it. if you watch the whole scene, you can see that damon seems to be the one urging for control. i think this further supports my own contention that stefan is the single best person to help elena through this transition. whatever his own issues, he was the person that was a champion for caroline through her transition. whatever elena’s issues, stefan understands the concept of guilt, he understands what it’s like to switch off his humanity only to turn it back on and be left with the pain, the remorse, and the grief. ofcourse he wants to shield elena from that because he’s been there and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. stefan wants to keep the person he loves more than anything in this world from feeling the guilt that eats him alive every day, guilt that no one on this show experiences to the degree he does. the writers would be retconning his character to imply anything different. stefan understands EVERY SINGLE THING elena is going through right now. he has a dark side much darker than damon’s and, as he said in the episode, he doesn’t want her to go down that path because he knows it will ultimately eat her alive. if handled according to their personalities, i think the parallels for stefan and elena could be ridiculous going forward.

#he asked his brother if stefan wanted to blow off everything #and just basically spend time with him #and lean on him #and let him be there for him #because he promised his brother he would be there for him #because he is a good fucking brother #and a good fucking friend #and a good fucking man
